Self-binding gravel paths and new lawn in a landscaped garden in Firle

A two-year job: footings, underpinning, drainage and services first, then landscaping to the architect's plans.

We’ve been back and forth to this large job in Firle for two years. It began with groundworks: machine work and muck away, footings dug and concreted including some underpinning, and a block retaining wall.

Foul and rainwater drainage went in, including a soakaway and a rainwater harvesting tank, with new concrete chambers and a manhole connection. Services were run across the site, including water, electric and ducting.

The later stage of the job was the landscaping. After stripping the back garden back to a blank canvas and reducing the levels following the architect’s plans, we laid brick edgings to shape the garden, self-binding gravel areas and paths, brick steps and a reclaimed brick patio. The flower beds were filled with a topsoil and manure mix and the lawn was turfed. Work on the project will be ongoing.
